Australian crane designer bought by mining specialist

A Danish service provider specialising in minerals extraction and construction materials has purchased two Australian service companies including material handling equipment manufacturer Mayer Bulk.

FLSmidth signed an agreement to acquire mobile machine, crane and material handling structure designer Mayer Bulk, along with mining, industrial and engineering services company MIE Enterprises for an undisclosed sum in early September.

Each of the newly acquired companies regard the Australian and South East Asian mining industries as key markets, making them a good fit for a Danish firm already expanding its presence in the region.

FLSmidth CEO Jørgen Huno Rasmussen said: Combined with our current set-up and recent acquisition of Australian Ludowici these acquisitions further accelerate the development of FLSmidth's regional customer services capabilities, offering a unique combination of service foot print and skills which makes FLSmidth one of the strongest service providers in Australia, while at the same time providing opportunities, through FLSmidth's global foot print, to expand the acquired new expertise to other markets where the FLSmidth Group is active.
