The main activities will include station box excavation, tunnel boring machine assembly, utility installation work along Robert Street and acoustic shed installation.

In July 2021, Sydney Metro awarded Acciona Construction and Ferrovial Construction the contract to deliver 11 kilometres of twin metro rail tunnels between Sydney Olympic Park and The Bays.

At The Bays these works include:

site establishment and demolition

excavating the station box

to a depth of 30 metres (approximately 10 storeys)

launching two tunnel boring machines from the excavated station box

providing tunnelling support

storage of excavated material, ventilation, grout batching and water treatment

removing excavated material via trucks.

Eastern Tunnelling Package

In November 2022, Sydney Metro awarded John Holland Ghella Joint Venture (JCG) the contract to deliver 3.5 kilometres of metro rail tunnels under Sydney Harbour between The Bays and the Sydney CBD, as well as the excavation of Pyrmont and Hunter Street stations.

These works at The Bays include:

site establishment

concreting works, installing tunnelling infrastructure and equipment

launching two tunnel boring machines from the existing excavated station box and tunnelling to Hunter Street

providing tunnelling support

storage of excavated material, ventilation, grout batching, slurry treatment to separate the water from the excavated material, water treatment

removing excavated material via trucks

excavating and lining cross passages in the tunnels and concreting works for the tunnel inverts between The Bays and Pyrmont

demobilising tunnelling infrastructure on Project completion

New factory, new challenges

For the new plant, which has become the company's new headquarters, it was important to the factory planners to focus on modern production processes. Right from the start, intralogistics, and lifting technology in particular, were given high priority in order to meet new organisational and production requirements. The entire crane technological requirements were planned in close co-operation between the Sisteven and ABUS technical teams.

The following were finally installed:

A single girder ELK overhead travelling crane with a SWL of 6.3 t and a span of 19,900 mm

Four LS jib cranes with a SWL of 1 t and a radius of 4,500 mm

Seven LS jib cranes with a SWL of 500 kg and a radius of 4,000 mm

Three LS jib cranes with a SWL of 250 kg and a radius of 5,600 mm

Thanks to the equipment designed and installed by ABUS, it was possible to streamline the production processes of the existing plants in the new Sisteven factory. Production processes could be optimised, resulting in cost savings, reduced operating times and optimised use of space.

The employees who work with the cranes on a daily basis are pleased with the improved convenience and safety offered by the ABUS cranes. The straightforward handling and ease of operation of both the cross-travel and slewing motion of the LS jib cranes are of particular note. With their two lifting speeds, the ABUCompact series chain hoists offer speedy operation and precise workpiece positioning, two features that are demanded daily by ventilation contractors.

Automated crane system for rail wheel set storage and retrieval

As part of Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Rail Capacity Enhancement project, Eilbeck Cranes has supplied three fully automated pick and place overhead cranes. Victorian based Marand Precision Engineering approached Eilbeck for a crane based solution for the placement, storage and retrieval of rail wagon wheel sets to facilitate efficient wheel change out and maintenance of Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore rail wagons. Located near Karratha, Western Australia, the wheel farm operates in the harsh North West environment with extreme temperatures and storm conditions whilst maintaining reliability and availability.

After fabrication in Perth, the runway and support structure was transported to Karratha for installation in preparation for the installation and commissioning of the three cranes. The design includes unique self closing hooks for picking up to four wheel sets at one time, rapid travel speeds and anti-sway masts to ensure precision placement. Eilbeck’s design scope included footings, support structure and full service access including Tractel static lines.

Once complete, these facilities will be amongst the largest automated railway workshops in the world and will be integral in improving the efficiency of Rio’s rail operations.

The crane capacities are huge, the main winch lifting 100t for heavy machinery retrieval from a 100m deep pit, and a general use 10t auxiliary winch with man riding capabilities.

Close behind, comes the second crane. This is the most proficient and unique of the project. This beast features the same capabilities as the first crane, plus the extra ability to remove 50t of muck per lift, at lifting speeds of 40 metres per minute. This job proves Eilbeck’s lifting strengths, and demonstrates the diverse range of skills the Eilbeck Engineering and Production teams have to offer.

This has been a great test of Eilbeck’s newly opened Heavy Machining shop, were we have turned the rope drums for the project, with the largest 8m in length - weighing over 8 tonnes!!! With the immense amount of work generated by with these four cranes, as well other ongoing projects, it allows Eilbeck Cranes to supply local businesses with healthy work also – supporting other Australian local businesses.

This financial commitment is evident in the recently opened state of the art Machining facility of Eilbeck Cranes. It is a line of thought largely contradicted by the majority in the Australian Manufacturing Industry, as the modern day phase is to improve bottom line by outsourcing jobs overseas opposed to investing locally.

Foxconn is a manufacturer of electronic products, specializing in high-tech electronic products internationally. And all the products made by Foxconn are processed and produced by other brands according to customer requirements, and they are then handed over to customers after completion. So the finished product needs to be transported to the destination. In order to provide customers with a good experience and have certain requirements for cranes, Foxconn contacted the person in charge of Taiguan through a friend's introduction. After understanding the requirements, a dedicated production team was established to start preparing for the preliminary work.

The crown crane can not only complete transportation, but also provide us with a better experience through transportation. This is the evaluation given to us by Foxconn.

The single beam semi Gantry crane is one of the important tools and equipment to realize mechanization and automation of production process in modern industrial production and lifting transportation. Small semi Gantry crane are mostly used for lightweight lifting in indoor production workshops. They are designed by Gantry crane according to the needs of the site. Therefore, they are classified as Gantry crane.

Safety inspection specifications

For the safety inspection of semi Gantry crane, in order to ensure the normal operation of the crane, some routine safety inspections shall be carried out during the operation of the crane. The inspection items and key points are as follows:

(1) The performance of the lifting height limit device, travel limit switch, and various interlocking mechanisms is normal, safe, and reliable;

(2) All main components meet safety requirements: the increase in opening is less than 15% of the original size, and the torsional deformation is less than 10%; The wear of the plate hook bushing is less than 50% of the original size, and the wear of the plate hook spindle is less than 5%, without peeling, burrs, or welding repairs. There are no obvious defects on the hooks, hangers, and pulleys.
