Full gantry crane systems are the most popular configuration—consisting of two legs that ride on rail that is embedded flush with the top surface of the floor. They typically run in a straight line in a dedicated work area. This design allows motorized equipment like scissor lifts, fork lifts, carts, and trucks to roll over it and cross through underneath the crane.
Gantry cranes can also be designed with one leg riding on wheels or rails and the other side of the crane riding on a runway system connected to building columns or a side wall of the building structure. These are advantageous because they can save you floor space / work space. Unlike a bridge crane, this setup doesn’t need two runways supported by or tied back to building columns.
Portable gantry cranes are smaller lighter-duty gantry systems that run on casters or rubber wheels. These wheels allow the user to move it throughout a facility to handle various materials or loads. When they’re empty and not under load, they can be moved or stored anywhere throughout a shop or into different work cells to offer greater space-saving and floor space flexibility.
Adjustable gantry cranes can be designed with variable height and span design. Adjustability allows the end user to change the height of the beams—offering more flexibility when transporting a gantry system in and out of a facility or through different areas of a shop.
Fixed gantry cranes come in one of a number of styles. They can either use an A-frame crane design similar to that of our portable options, or they can be attached to goal post supports (much like a monorail crane).

Cantilever gantry crane, as its name implies, has one or two cantilevers on the bridge in order to increase lifting capacity and protect the machine’s leg free from deformation, and cantilever gantry can also increase the travelling distance which greatly convenient to handle the goods.
Design considerations for the cantilever gantry crane include the need to compensate for deformations caused by changes in temperature and for skew of the span in relation to the supports during movement. The span may have one or, as in the case of cranes servicing ships, two cantilevers, one of them functioning as the hoist boom.
The cantilever gantry cranes are equipped with automatic holding devices in order to prevent creep caused by wind action when the crane is not in operation. Grab buckets, and sometimes lifting electromagnets, are used as the cargo-handling gear of the crane.

Semi-goliath cranes consist of a horizontal lifting beam or beams supported by one floor mounted rail (similar to those used in traditional gantry crane designs) and also one raised rail, like those used in overhead crane systems.
This means semi-goliath cranes can provide a cost benefit over typical overhead solutions because they don’t have to span the entire width of warehouse or workspace, but can be effectively ‘cut-short’ and remain supported by a floor mounted column. Semi-goliath cranes are ideal if you want a system that spans over a piece of equipment or another obstacle in your workplace.
