Lifting equipment fittings maker expands range

A new range of fittings for wire rope-based lifting equipment, including shackles, turnbuckles, open spelter sockets and safety bolts has been released.

Dutch manufacturer Van Beest has expanded its Green Pin range of turnbuckles and sling shackles in addition to the release of two new products for its Green Pin socket range -- Open Spelter Sockets and Open Wedge Sockets -- both fitted with safety bolts.

Attached properly, the company says the two new socket types will at least meet the breaking strength of the steel wire rope they are used with. Van Beest also claims they are the strongest steel wire rope end fittings on the market able to attach the rope to a fixed point.

Both products are made of high-tensile steel with a hot dipped galvanised finish, suitable for operating within temperatures from minus 20°C and 200°C.

Van Beest's existing Green Pin Turnbuckles range has been expanded by the addition of the new Jaw-Jaw Turnbuckles for rigging or tensioning wire rope. All sizes of this model fitted are with safety bolts to prevent the pin falling out in the event of the cotter pin disappearing.

The mean breaking load for each Jaw-Jaw turnbuckle is five times the working load limit, and each unit is drop forged, galvanized high tensile steel to SAE 1035 0r 1045.

The company has also updated its Green Pin range of sling shackles to accommodate smaller sizes, now covering working load limits from 18t to 1,500t.

The smaller sized shackles in the extended range also have an increased bow radius to improve the products' resistance to wear, with the bow and pin made from Grade 8 quenched and tempered alloy steel.
