New cranes arrive at Colombian port

The Regional Port of Buenaventura SA, which constitute the largest cranes on the South American Pacific coast, has received two new Super Post Panamax gantry cranes, local news reports revealed recently. The USD 16.7M investment in the equipment is intended to increase productivity in port operations.

The cranes have a 61m range to move 45 containers per hour, and will help optimise the time of loading and unloading of container ships, decrease waiting times at the Maritime Terminal and offer a more efficient and competitive service.

The local report stated that the cranes are part of the contractual commitment that the Port of Buenaventura Company has with the Ministry of Transportation, through the National Infrastructure Agency of Columbia, ANI, to address foreign trade needs of The country. A training programme for 13 gantry crane operators has also been set up.
