Industrial Material Handling Systems - Crosby Airpes

Each type of material can and must be handled differently to perform operations more efficiently and not damage what is lifted or transported. For this reason, it is necessary to have specific industrial material handling equipment for each process.

What are the systems of material handling?

Material handling is the movement, protection, storage, and control of materials and products throughout manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, consumption, and disposal.

Material handling equipment typically falls into one of these categories:

  • Storage and handling equipment.
  • Industrial trucks.
  • Engineered systems.
  • Bulk material handling equipment.

These categories apply to various needs that one may encounter in a warehouse environment.

Mechanical handling systems refer to the equipment that manages product storage and movement. They are essential to provide an efficient and consistent product distribution service.

Crosby Airpes’ industrial material handling systems provide custom functions adapted to warehousing or transportation needs.

Two particular situations that need unique industrial material handling solutions

1. Handling metallic materials and intermediate metallic products

In this case, the most logical option is a lifting electromagnet, especially for unfinished products.

This Crosby Airpes lifting system can be adapted to any crane already installed and makes it possible to lift and handle metallic materials such as:

  • Steel plates
  • Rods
  • Wiring coils
  • Metallic beams

2. Reorientating pieces in different positions

Sometimes, companies ask us about a lifting system that allows them to lift and move large blocks of material or large pieces while changing the position or orientation of those pieces. For these cases, we have two solutions:

Using load rotors

Load rotors by pulleys allow turning and putting any object upside down, no matter how big. We have successfully developed, designed, and installed load rotators in several companies, including the rotor installed for a multinational company with the capacity to turn generators for turbines weighing 175 tons.

Using crane blocks with integrated rotation

Rotating crane blocks allow any crane’s hook to rotate 360º on itself on the vertical axis. With this solution, we can orientate the load in any direction on itself. Rotating crane blocks are functional in logistics and transportation operations or working with large rectangular parts that need to be reoriented, for example, for loading them onto the truck when leaving the warehouse.
