According to Gong Tao, the Chinese ambassador to Angola, the trade volume between China and Angola increased by 42% year-on-year in 2021, reaching US$23.35 billion.
In the first half of 2022, the trade volume has reached US$14.42 billion. In the first six months of 2022, trade has maintained a good pace, with a year-on-year increase of 33%, and China continues to be Angola's main economic partner.
The diplomat also revealed that Angola is negotiating tariff relief for Chinese exports, mainly oil and, to a lesser extent, decorative stone.
According to the ambassador, in May this year, a cargo ship carrying 50,000 tons of granite set sail for China, which also imports other minerals, aluminum, copper and their by-products.
Angolan media said that in June 2022, at the Sacomar mining port in the city of Mocamedes, Namibe province, 55,000 tons of bulk granite began to be exported to China via a vessel.
Ambassador Gong Tao was quoted by the Portuguese news agency on Thursday as saying that China’s main exports to Angola are household appliances, machinery and vehicles, and that Chinese cars are very popular in the Angolan market.
